Our university began admitting international students in the 1990s. In 2009, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, we started enrolling international students in the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) program taught in English, becoming one of the 44 medical universities in China qualified to offer this program. In 2011, the university was designated as a recipient institution for the Chinese Government Scholarship. In 2012, we hosted the Chinese Government Scholarship Conference for International Students in China. In 2013, we passed the teaching quality assessment for the MBBS program conducted by the Ministry of Education. In 2019, we underwent and passed the special inspection for the MBBS program by the Ministry of Education.
Over the past two decades of international student education, our university has gone through three developmental stages:
The first was the exploratory and initial stage from 1995 to 2009. This stage was characterized by the pioneering development of international student education, primarily enrolling ethnic Chinese students from Southeast Asia and using Chinese as the medium of instruction.
The second was the rapid development stage from 2009 to 2016. This stage featured significant expansion in the scale of international student enrollment, with the number of on-campus international students continuously increasing to over 400.
The third has been the quality and efficiency enhancement stage from 2016 to 2022. This stage has focused on improving the quality of talent cultivation while maintaining a stable enrollment scale, leading to further enhancement in both quality and efficiency of international student education.
Throughout this period, our international student education has consistently emphasized both quantity and quality. While appropriately expanding the scale, we have continuously focused on improving the quality of talent cultivation, aiming to train qualified medical professionals for the international community.
